Pregnancy Yoga

About the Class

Yoga supports both mum and baby in pregnancy and  birth. It can build strong emotional connections with your baby through containment of overwhelming feelings, very normal in pregnancy as there are so many physical, emotional and social changes happening all at once. You don't need to have any previous experience of yoga. The practice is gentle and safe to meet each individuals unique needs. Props are used to make the yoga accessible at any stage in pregnancy from 14 weeks to full term. Traditional yoga poses are modified to meet changes that occur in the body during pregnancy. The practice is empowering, holistic, nuturing, restorative and relaxing. There are many other benefits to be experienced, including relief of back and pelvic girdle pain. Focus on strengthening your increasingly stretched abdominal muscles as your baby grows. Pelvic floor awareness and release is explored; this can help you prepare for birth and support a better postnatal recovery. Improvement in circulation, digestion and balancing of hormones. Restless legs, disturbed sleep and anxiety can be relieved. The practice encourages an active approach to birthing. There is a growing body of evidence that supports further health benefits of yoga during pregnancy, including maintaining normal blood pressure thought to be related to better management of stress, likely due to feeling more calm as the practice you learn in class is easily practiced at home. Practicing breath led movement that respects the changes in the pregnant body helps increase energy levels and boosts your mood. During these classes your teacher will give you tips and guidance on movements and breathing practices that specifically help during labour and birth. Your confidence can grow and help you prepare emotionally for birth and parenthood. There is connection between the group leading to community which can continue at yoga quarter  through parent and baby yoga classes.
