To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants, please review the following guidelines: Proper Attire: Wear a clean Judo gi (uniform). If you don’t have one yet, please let us know and we can assist you in obtaining one. Alternatively, if you’re just starting and do not have a gi, comfortable athletic wear (e.g., sweatpants and a t-shirt) is acceptable for your first class. However, the gi is the preferred attire once you begin regular training. Personal Hygiene: For safety and hygiene, please ensure your hands and feet are clean. Nails should be trimmed short to avoid injury. If you have long hair, please tie it back to avoid it interfering during training. No Jewelry: Remove all jewelry (earrings, rings, necklaces, watches, etc.) before class. This is important to prevent injury during Judo practice. Arrive Early: Please arrive 10-15 minutes before the start of class. This will allow time for check-in, getting changed, and warming up, which are essential for a safe and effective training session. Hydration: Bring a water bottle to class. Hydration is key to staying energized and focused throughout the workout. Listen and Learn: Judo is a technical sport, and mastering the basics is crucial for progression. Please listen attentively to the instructor and ask questions if you need clarification. Keep an open mind and be patient with yourself as you learn new skills. Everyone progresses at their own pace! Respect the Training Space: We maintain a respectful and focused environment in our dojo. Please be mindful of class etiquette—bowing before entering and leaving the mat, and showing courtesy to your classmates and instructors. If you need to leave early or take a break, please inform the instructor beforehand. Safety: Judo involves falls and physical contact. The breakfall (or ukemi) is a key safety technique that all beginners will learn early on, and it’s crucial to practice it to avoid injury. Always perform techniques with control and be mindful of your partner's safety. If at any time you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, inform the instructor. Physical Limitations: If you have any pre-existing injuries or health concerns, please inform the instructor before the class so we can accommodate your needs. Judo can be physically demanding, and we want to ensure that all participants train safely. Progress and Feedback: In Judo, progression is based on technique, consistency, and improvement. We encourage regular attendance, as consistent practice will help you build confidence and skill. Your instructor will provide feedback on your technique and guide you through areas that need improvement. Don’t hesitate to ask for additional help or clarification as you progress. No Pressure, Just Fun! This class is for beginners, and there is no pressure to “perform” or compete. Our goal is to introduce you to the basics of Judo and help you build a solid foundation while having fun in the process!
