Addison Tharp is an accomplished composer, arranger, trumpet player, and pianist based in Los Angeles. Growing up in Marietta, Georgia, Tharp was an active member of his high school jazz band and studied with Scotty Barnhart. He received a BFA in Jazz Studies from the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre, and Dance in 2021, studying under Ellen Rowe, Andrew Bishop, Dennis Wilson, and Bill Lucas. In his short career thus far, he has played at the Umbria Jazz Festival in Perugia, Italy, where he received the Outstanding Musicianship Award, the Detroit Jazz Festival, and Carnegie Hall, sharing the stage with Benny Green, Andy Milne, Bob Hurst, Charles McPherson, Scotty Barnhart, Ignacio Berroa, Cristine Jensen, and Michael League. Currently, Tharp is a Master’s student in Jazz Studies at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music where he studies with Michael Stever and Russell Ferrante. Addison is accomplished in many genres of music, such as jazz, classical, funk, R&B, and hip hop, which allows him and his students to explore genres and unlock their full potential.
